Recently, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs organized the Office of the National Livestock and Poultry Genetic Improvement Program Leadership Group and its Expert Committee to carry out the selection process for 2021 National Superior Waterfowl Breeding and Propagation Demonstration Centers. Hebei Leshou Duck Industry Co., Ltd.'s Breeding Division successfully passed the selection.
Hebei Leshou Duck Industry Co. currently operates three Z-type Beijing duck breeding farms: one grandparent stock farm capable of annually producing 2,200 parent-generation breeding units, and two parent-generation farms housing over 100,000 ducks. Additionally, the company has three配套 hatchery workshops with an annual chick-rearing capacity of 12 million.
The establishment of the National Waterfowl Breeding and Propagation Demonstration Base at Leshou Duck Industry marks a groundbreaking achievement in our company’s breeding efforts for superior duck varieties. The Z-type duck breed, jointly developed and researched by our company and the Beijing Institute of Animal Science & Veterinary Medicine under the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, boasts rapid growth, high feed conversion efficiency, strong reproductive performance, and stable genetic traits—qualities that not only enhance productivity but also significantly boost farmers' profitability.
Moving forward, the company will seize the national opportunities in the seed industry, leveraging the strategic advantage of the national waterfowl base being established at its facilities to attract key resources and vigorously advance breeding initiatives. In collaboration with the under-construction China Academy of Agricultural Sciences Meat Duck Germplasm Innovation Center, the company will focus on selecting, improving, and expanding the Z-type Beijing duck population—increasing herd size while enhancing the genetic quality of the breeding stock. This partnership will also facilitate stronger alignment with the roasted duck carcass market, enabling the joint development of a new, proprietary Beijing duck variety specifically tailored for roasting. Together, these efforts will accelerate the expansion of high-quality breeds and ensure the sustainable preservation of germplasm resources, driving healthy growth in the industry.
